Meet Dr. Fadia Abdel Gawad The First Deaf Egyptian Female Doctor In The World
“From the womb of pain, hope is born, and from the depth of darkness, light emerges. My story, in short, is a decision.. a decision I made when I was a little girl, and I resolved to achieve it despite the difficulties.”
Dr. Fadia Abdel Gawad
Dermatology and Cosmetology consultant
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hearing Association “Voice of Life”.
The Story
The most important stations of her life:
- I live all my life in my own world…a world of absolute contentment and certainty of God’s mercy. When I lost my hearing at the age of 11 after suffering from meningococcal fever, I never gave up hope.
- I was so busy with my studies and self-development that I forgot that I was deaf, and God blessed me with the talent of reading the movement of the lips in a way that is close to 100 %, and I taught myself at home.
- I am the first single deaf female doctor in the world, and I learned this by chance in 2014, when I decided to implant a cochlear, as the Cochlear Company conducted research on this subject and entered the Guinness Book of Records.
- I received many honors, the most important of which are the “Helen Keeler Award” for the challenger around the world, and I am the ambassador of humanity for the challenger. I was nominated for the “Hope Maker Award” for Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and I was honored at the Women’s Institute for Development in Kuwait and a number of other Arab and international forums.
- I wrote a book about my experience to be a light of hope that lights the way for many.
- I delivered a speech in the Kuwaiti Parliament, in which she demanded the issuance of laws related to empowering women with disabilities.
- I established an association for the deaf and dumb challenged with disabilities, and I seek to enact laws through the People’s Assembly to empower the deaf, give them eligibility, and integrate them into society.
The journey is still long, and I am still striving and seeking not only to rehabilitate the children who use the cochlea, but also to rehabilitate the community itself to take care and contain these children, support them, rehabilitate and educate them, and make their journey less difficult than mine.
And my message to the youth in general and to those with special abilities is that every human being is capable of success and being what he wants, achieving his dream and making his own miracle by himself.
God has not singled me out for anything other than others, for He is the just, the just, the merciful.
We all have this inner energy and we all have this genie or the lion crouching inside us.. The important thing is how we use it and improve its use to achieve the goal we seek.
Peace be upon you and the mercy of God.
