13 November 2021 Launching of Barbara Nassar Cancer Academy

The Barbara Nassar Association launched the “Barbara Nassar Academy for Cancer Patients” – in the context of the “Hope Giver” campaign, which has spread in 14 countries – under the patronage and presence of the Minister of Public Health Dr. Firas Abyad, and in the presence of the initiative’s leader, captain Anwar Elkamony, the first athlete to achieve the International tennis ranking after the bone marrow transplant operation.

The celebration was held at the Lebanese American University in Beirut, on the afternoon of Saturday, November 13th. It was attended, along with the Minister of Health and Captain Anwar Elkamony, by Hani Khader, representing the Egyptian Ambassador in Lebanon, the President of the Lebanese Society of Hematologists, Professor Ahmed Ibrahim, Saad El-Zein representing the President of the University, the President of the Lebanese Tennis Federation Oliver Faisal, Professor Fadi Nasr and Princess Hayat Arslan for the Council. Trustees of the association, and a large number of hematologists, oncologists and cancer fighters. It was introduced by Mrs. Fadia Atallah, a breast cancer survivor.

Barbara Nassar Academy for Cancer Patients
The academy aims to help patients and work on their upbringing scientifically and psychologically. Through it, the patient turns from a mere person with cancer to an expert in his disease who gives hope to every needy person in his environment, according to a statement by the association. The Academy’s professors are the association’s fifty doctors and specialists from different fields. They develop a program that includes educational topics about the disease of each group, taking into account the patients’ wishes.
 
Barbara Nassar Association presented to Captain Anwar the association’s shield, which is the symbol of the phoenix, which revives life from under the ashes. And Minister Abyad handed him over to him.
Then Captain Anwar presented Hani Nassar with the Shield of Hope Giver campaign, in appreciation of his efforts to give hope to cancer patients in Lebanon.
 
After the celebration ended, a friendly tennis match was held between Captain Anwar El Kamouni and Dr. Hadi Ghanem, Head of the Hematology and Oncology Department at the Lebanese American University Hospital – Rizk. This was followed by a four-way match in which the Lebanese champion Said Karam and coach Sami Garabedian participated.
 
The Barbara Nassar Association and the Lebanese American University, with the participation of the president of the federation, presented the players with medals in remembrance.
